If meat had an official holiday, the Super Bowl would be it. But what if you or your guests forgo flesh? Uncle Mike’s BBQ (located in the heart of White Center) has you more than covered. Though known for their Texas caliber Ribs, Pulled Pork and Brisket, Mike’s also caters to non-carnivores with an entire range of sides, from beans and rice, to mouth-watering mac and cheese, to baked beans and collard greens that are completely vegetarian in preparation. Mike’s also serves up deliciously marinated tofu and veggies as a sandwich or as a full meal that will leave your leaf-eaters more than satisfied.
So what swayed Uncle Mike’s decision to prepare those beans Ham Hock-less? Marriage, of course. Proprietor Mike’s wife Elizabeth is devotedly meat-free, so instead of becoming the James Carville and Mary Matalin of the local culinary world, he crafted a slew of carefully thought-out and executed menu items to suit her needs.
Meat, naturally, is the star of the show here and you can get it in any variety you so choose – loafed, shredded, pulled and right on the bone – everything from meatloaf to chicken wings are there for the taking. I’d suggest placing your game day order immediately, as this spot gets as busy as Target on Christmas Eve before the Seahawks hit the screen. Their take-out is great reheated, so make the treck to White Center a day prior and you’ll be good to go.
