One of the things Singles got right back in the day and still rings true, is that people in Seattle love their cars. Really love their cars. We have a relationship with them, we spend hours in them, we give them names and mourn when they “die”.
With all apologies to my current ride, Ms. Kitty, the greatest car I ever owned was a ‘78 Buick Skylark which I drove in the ‘90s. Gigantic, with maroon velour interior – and A STATE OF THE ART CASSETTE PLAYER- its backseat was like sofa you sunk into and could comfortably curl up in for a weekend.
This early photo series by 21-year-old Ashley Armitage is a study in light, juxtaposition and begs the question: What the hell are these two up too? Are they ladies on the lamb? Two girls on tour? Sisters with a secret?
Whoever they are, these photos convey all the fun fearlessness of a couple of girls who just need each other and the road. We’ll be featuring an interview with Ashley and her most recent shoot next week, but for now you can enjoy her work through the end of the month at Bon Voyage Vintage and in this fantastic series about two bestie babes and their Buick.-MDL
