As fans of Kathleen Hanna and her latest musical endeavour the Julie Ruin can attest she is capable of some deep female Shamanism. Sunday night the rest of Seattle was let in on what Hanna has proven with previous bands Le Tigre and Bikini Kill -and we grrrls have known for years- she is a God Damn force of nature. Minutes before the Julie Ruin (Hanna, Kathi Wilcox, Kenny Mellman, Carmine Covelli and Sara Landeau) were set to take the stage, walls of water poured from the sky, providing a literal and karmic cleansing that was much needed after weeks of drought-like conditions. The downpour lasted through the band’s short, tight set letting up shortly after.
So was The Julie Ruin’s set an unfortunate weather coincidence or is Hanna a mystic mama of Stevie Nicks like proportions? Check out the photos below and decide for yourself.
